Winning Research
SSHRC Aurora Prize
The SSHRC Aurora Prize recognizes an outstanding new researcher
who is building a reputation for exciting and original research in the
social sciences or humanities.
Value
The value of the prize is $25,000. The funds can only be used for research,
training or other academic activities.
Eligibility
SSHRC will automatically consider for the Aurora Prize all successful
applicants (principal investigators) who applied as new scholars in the
Standard Research Grants competition.
Evaluation
The recipient of the Aurora Prize will be a researcher in the early
stages of his or her career who:
- has demonstrated excellence, originality and talent in research;
- has proposed an innovative and compelling program of research that
has the potential to enrich Canadian society, including Canada's intellectual
and cultural life; and
- has demonstrated exceptional ability and commitment in communicating
the results of his or her research to both the academic and other communities
(taking into account the norms of the field of study).
Adjudication
Each of the Standard Research Grants adjudication committees will review
all successful applications in the new scholar category and, in accordance
with the evaluation criteria outlined above, will nominate the top-ranked
candidate. A high-level multidisciplinary committee made up of leading scholars will choose the prize winner from among the nominees.
Administrative Regulations
The recipient of the Aurora Prize must comply with the regulations set
out in the Financial
Administration section
of the
Grant
Holder's Guide.
The SSHRC Aurora Prize winner must agree to allow SSHRC to use his or
her photograph to promote the awards and other SSHRC initiatives. The
