About SSHRC
Council
SSHRC Council promotes and assists research and scholarship in the social sciences and humanities. It meets regularly to set
policy and program priorities
, allocate budgets and to advise the minister of industry and Parliament on research policy in these areas.
The vice-president of Council chairs its meetings and also plays a key role in strengthening Council’s ability to provide the president with independent guidance and to oversee SSHRC’s strategic directions. Council members elect the vice-president, subject to approval by the Governor-in-Council.
