Government of Canada announces recipients of 2023 SSHRC Insight Development Grants

On March 13, 2024, as part of a national research funding announcement, the Honourable Pablo Rodriguez, Minister of Transport and Quebec Lieutenant, on behalf of the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, and the Honourable Mark Holland, Minister of Health, announced the disbursement of over $1.8 billion in federal research support through various federal research funding programs, including the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council’s (SSHRC) Insight Development Grants.

The 2023 Insight Development Grants competition has awarded $35.3 million in funding for 577 research projects at 66 Canadian institutions, funding which stems from the 2023-24 federal budget.

Insight Development Grants support research in its early stages and enable the development of new research questions, as well as experimentation with new methods, theoretical approaches and ideas. Funding is available to both emerging scholars and established scholars for research initiatives of up to two years.

The research being funded includes projects that will, among other things, identify systemic barriers for people of colour entering the field of psychology, improve institutional land acknowledgments, and promote well-being in the digital world.

SSHRC’s Insight Research program, of which the Insight Development Grants competition is a key component, aims to fuel excellence in social sciences and humanities research to deepen our collective understanding of individuals and societies, as well as to inform the search for solutions to societal challenges.
